STREET ARTIST XOMATOK ADDS COLOR TO PERUVIAN COMMUNITIES
Colorful stairs, neighbors who identify with their community, and the promotion of both art and culture are the results of pinta lima: bicentennial edition — a project promoted by the municipality of Lima. the initiative saw street artist Xomatok jointly work with community members to infill the streets with vibrant murals, reflecting on the neighborhood’s cultural memory and the history of each community. With the purpose of disseminating the various cultural manifestations of the city, the project aims to promote and recognize art as an important vehicle for the sustainable development of the community.

About the Xomatok:
Xomatok is an artist from Lima, Perú, beginning his love for Street and Urban Art in 2007. He works within a contemporary aesthetic that explores the intervention of color and its effects on visual language. His work is based on the design and alteration of space, with emphasis on the manifestation of color and its relationship to the human experience. Xomatok feels that Street Art produces a sense of freedom for both himself, as the artist, and the observer: creating a dialogue between the art, the artist, and its spectators - it is as though the art does not exist without its audience. Xomatok has collaborated with major brands such as Absolut, Adidas, and Motorola. (Artsugar)
Xomatok is a visual artist and art director who makes neglected street parts of the cities more beautiful with his vibrant bursts of color. In 2018 he adorned the old walls of Villa el Salvador, the district of Lima in Peru. His latest work is the prismatic murals, similar to the Andean textiles of incredibly lively colors across 13 different super-long staircases that spread across the hills of Lima. His prismatic murals look like handwoven Andrean blankets that cover already impressive pathways through the Alisos de Amauta neighborhood. Xomatok took the 2 months that he spent in Lima to collaborate with other artists and residents with the goal of transforming the public staircases.
