About the Artist: Gustav Klimt
Gustav Klimt was born in 1862 in a suburb of Vienna. His father, Ernst Klimt, was a gold engraver, and his mother, Anna Klimt, was an accomplished amateur artist. Klimt is known for his ornate, decorative style and use of gold leaf in his paintings. Gustav Klimt was an Austrian symbolist painter and one of the most prominent members of the Vienna Secession movement. Klimt is noted for his paintings, murals, sketches, and other objets d'art. Klimt's primary subject was the female body, and his works are marked by frank eroticism. (Gustav Klimt)
However, his time at Attersee was significant. Beginning in the late 1890s, Gustav Klimt visited Attersee each summer. Between 1900 and 1916, he created around 40 of his more than 50 known landscape paintings in this region and thus created an impressive artistic legacy for Attersee. Thanks for this post, as always. Green is my favorite color. I’ve always loved olive green, it’s soothing to me. Of these, I like the O’Keefe palette.
