Hofman mostly works on reproducing huge and large versions of everyday objects, such as laminate large flooring and flip-flops. With these sculptures, he wants to make people's lives happier. The purpose of his art is to promote the message of healing.

Say
Hofman says, "I like that [my art] surprises people. In between appointments, work, family visits, etc. I try to grasp you, to get you out of your normal daily life, to get you to stop and look."
How do you think Hofman's sculptures' spontaneous appearance and temporary quality add to their charm? Is art that is impermanent more or less valuable in your view? Why?
Do
Hofman said, "It looks like this giant baby is throwing around his toys, and, to be honest, I am this giant baby, this child throwing his toys all over the world."
Get a toy from your childhood. Something small that you can bring around. Take pictures of it in different places you go. I like to think you might be its travel partner! Create the appearance of a larger scale by shooting close-ups with picturesque or ordinary scenes behind them.

About the Artist: Florentijn Hofman
Born in the Netherlands in 1977, Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman is best known for his monumental, colorful sculptures and installations that transform cartoonish figures into three-dimensional forms. His characteristic figures are monochromatic animals placed in urban plazas, parks, or suspended from architecture. In his most famous work, Rubber Duck (2007), he used 200 pieces of PVC pipe to fabricate a 26-meter-tall rubber duck based on the standard yellow model. Hofman exhibited the floating duck in 14 cities internationally, aiming to provoke recollections of childhood experiences.
The Rubber Duck has made appearances in over 20 countries around the world, from the Americas and Europe to Asia and the South Pacific.
